In September 2007, Coney Island closed its gates for the last time. Coney Island has been a resort destination for New Yorkers since the Civil War. Over the years it has alternatively flourished and floundered. Recently it has fallen somewhat into disrepair. Future plans for the site include oceanside condominiums, among other things. A recent agreeement will keep a small portion of the park open for at least another year.

I visited Coney Island during its final week of operation in September 2007 to experience and capture some of its colorful sights and sounds.

Special thanks to HMC Architects for generously funding this trip through their [x]ref program.
